Getting Started:
Viewing this portion of the site requires Java. If you don't have it,
you can get it here.
How to Enter Game Information:
In order to simulate the conclusion of the game, you must completely specify
the current game situation. A brief description of each field follows:
| Road Score: |
Enter the road team's current score. |
| Home Score: |
Enter the home team's current score. |
| Possession: |
Designate team with possession (0 = road; 1 =
home). |
| Down: |
Enter current down (1-4), 5 for free kick or 6
for PAT. |
| Distance: |
Enter how many yards the offensive needs for a
first down. |
| Line of Scrimmage: |
Enter how far the offensive team is from its
opponent's goal line. |
| Quarter: |
Enter quarter (1-4) or 5 for overtime. |
| Minutes: |
Enter minutes remaining in the current quarter
(0-15). |
| Seconds: |
Enter seconds remaining in the current quarter
(0-59). |
| Overtime: |
Enter overtime status (0 = regulation; 1 =
overtime). |
| Road Timeouts: |
Enter road team's timeouts remaining in the
current half. |
| Home Timeouts: |
Enter home team's timeouts remaining in the
current half. |
| Who Kicked First? |
Designate the team who kicked first (0 = road; 1
= home; 99 = unknown). |
The road/home designation is used only to identify teams. The algorithm
does not consider home-field advantage. The applet's default values are for the
situation in which the home team is set to kick off at the beginning of the
game. By changing the input fields, you can "observe" random conclusions for the
particular game that interests you. For instance, how likely is it that
a team will come back from a 10-point deficit at half-time if they will receive
the second half kickoff?
